Grouping and Paste Location

Hello. I have a form that will print 2-up on 11x17 (landscape) with variable content. I would like to group all the elements on the left side so I can copy them and paste them offset by 8.5 inches. Then proceed to use the correct field on the right side.

This is different than the imposition capabilities because the two sides are different. Anyassistance is appreciated.

Hello Rolf,

You want to group all the elements on the left side of your 17 x 11 inches (width x height) Print Context Section or Master Page. And after that you want to copy this group of elements and place them on the right side of your Print Context Section or Master page. Is that correct?

Are the elements you want to group Positioned Box elements?

Yes, your summary is correct. And yes, the elements (all but maybe 2) are positioned box elements.

My first thought is also to group all the elements together. And to change the top-left position of the copied group of elements after that. But that’s currently not possible in the Connect Designer.

Therefore I would suggest you to first wrap all the elements, which are not Positioned Boxes, in one or more Positioned Box elements. After that, please run the following steps:

  1. Add a horizontal and vertical Guide to your template* which marked the top-left position of the most top-left Positioned Box element on the right side of your template*. For example: When your most top-left positioned element–of the elements on the left side of your template*–does have the value: top: “1in” and left: “1in”, you’ve to add a horizontal Guide: “1in” and vertical Guide: “9.5in” (8.5in + 1in) to your template*.

  2. Select all the Positioned Box elements on the left side of your template*. You can do that by holding down the CTRL-key and select each individual Positioned Box element with your left mouse button.

  3. Drag-and-Drop your selection to the right side of your Template. You will see that you’re able to place the selection on the exact position where your horizontal and vertical Guides intersect.

Tip: To change the value of your Guides, please double click on the Guide you’ve added to your template* and change the value of “Location”

*Template: Print Context Section or Master Page

An addition to my colleague solution, be aware that, should you have detail table overflowing, having them inside position box will prevent proper overflowing.

Thank you @Marten for your solution. The only step I added was a copy before moving the items. But it worked as expected.

Thank you @hamelj for your input. I will have to look into this detail table overflowing since I use position boxes mainly; I have not used detail table overflowing yet.
